The revision I am referring to is MS07-042-CRITICAL. When I download the
appropriate version before installation I am asked whether I want to modify,
repair or remove the item in question. I am stumped as to what selection to
make so any help would be appreciated so I do not make the wrong choice.
Thank you in advance for your help.

WinXP version?

Is Windows Update or Automatic Updates offering the machine this update or
are you attempting to install it manually?

Again, why are you attempting to (re)install this update in the first place?
If it's not being offered (again) by Windows Update or Automatic Updates,
you don't need to do so.

I got an email from Microsoft about this bulletin rerelease or update as you
put it and as I said when I attempted to install the update for my current
software Windows XP Home Edition it offered me the three options of modify,
repair or remove the item and I am not sure which option to choose.

Thank you very much for sticking with me on this issue. Since the
notification came from Microsoft about the secuirty bulletin revision should
I just download the revision and modify it which is one of the options or
just do nothing?

You do not need to do anything.

Please (re)read the section Revisions | V4.0 (June 24, 2008) at the bottom
of this page (again):
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS07-042.mspx

On 24 June 2008, MS made the update available to machines running Windows XP
Service Pack 3, Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Windows Vista x64 Edition
Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 for 32-bit Systems, Windows Server 2008
for x64-based Systems, and Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-based Systems.
Anyone running one of those Windows versions *only* (i.e., not you) would be
offered the update via Automatic Updates or Windows Updates.
