This is on my computer, but when I've received Updates from MS for it, I have not downloaded them b/c I prefer to not download "updates" I don't need, or for programs I do not recognize. When I checked on the MS URL it did not convince me I was even using this program.

Am I? Should I download the updates? Its in my Add and Remove Programs.

Thank you, very much.

Yes, you should download and install the patches. If .NET 1.1 is listed in
add/remove that means it is installed on your computer. You have some
programs that require it. More and more programs are written now using .NET
Framework. There is .NET1.0, .NET 1.1, .NET2.0 and very recently Microsoft
released .NET 3.0 which is a Superset of .NET2.0 and comes on Vista. I have
..NET1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 on my XP machine. .NET is being increasingly used by
programmers. It is 'hot" so to speak and you will soon find that you will
need at least .NET 2 and later 3 if you want to use Info cards and other new
stuff from Microsoft as well as applications written using .NET 2 or 3. .NET
1.1 is older but obviously you have applications that require it since you
have it. You can have all 4 versions of .NET as different applications use
different versions and if an application was written using .NET 1.1 it
cannot use .NET 2.0 or 1.0. It needs 1.1. I first got .NET 1.0 when it was
in BETA. This was on a 98SE machine in I think 2001 or 2002. Cookie Crusher
decided to totally rewrite the next version of CC using the brand new .NET
1.0 that was still in beta. I was beta testing their product for them so I
had to download and install this strange something called .NET (beta version
no less!). So, I have used .NET much longer than most folks as CC was one of
the first programs written using the .NET Framework.

The patches are critical ones so they are needed. Be aware though that they
may not install well. I have had particular problems with the last two
patches for .NET 2.0. I have not installed the ones this month for .NET1.1
or .NET 2.0 yet but I have seen reports already on the net of problems
installing both. Hopefully, yours will go smoothly and if not you will
likely need to remove .NET 1.1 and reinstall and then try the patch again.

Here's basic information on .NET:

thank you very much...
