Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter

I have a MS wireless desktop (keyboard and mouse). The screen-saver will
not start. I see on many sites that MS Update has an optional hardware
update "Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter".

However, when I go to the MS Update page, and it searches for updates, it
shows Optional Hardware updates as zero (0).

Where and how can I download this update?

What OS are you using?
What method of connection are you using to connect the receiver to the
computer (USB or PS/2)

You *have* to be using Windows XP or Vista and you have to be connected via
USB to have this update offered to you via Windows Update.

Thanks, Jason. I'm running XP Professional, with the wireless desktop
connected via USB2 port.

The only reason I'm looking for the update is because the screensaver
doesn't work; I've checked all other suggested causes, and this Update seems
to be a likely suspect. If it is not offered, maybe it's already
installed?????

Well - curiouser and curiouser, to quote Alice in Wonderland.

One entry on your blog suggested going to Device Manager, select Human
Interface devices, and update drivers. Did so - it promptly downloaded and
installed - guess what? Yup - the HID Non-User Input Filter - even shows
it now in Device Manager.

Now to see if the screensaver starts.

(15 minutes later - been watching a replay of Geelong thrashing Port
Adelaide in the AFL Grand Final - YEAH!)
(That's Australian Football League - the most spectacular football code in
the world)

We have screensaver ! YEAH!
