Microsoft Fingerprint Reader

I am having difficulty using the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader. Can
anyone help?

Using XP Media Center edition, when I attempt to use the new reader
(Model 1033) with the furnished CD installation disk (MPPM ver 1.0) it
will register the fingerprints. When I go to a logon page at a
website, the reader appears to recognize the fingerprint (the small
icon image appears briefly on the screen), but the logon dialog window
never appears.

If I use the later DPPM (ver. 2.0) downloaded from Microsoft, it will
also register the fingerprints satisfactorily. However, I always get
an error message when I try to set it up to logon to any websites. The
message reads: "This page is not a logon screen. (Well, it certainly
is!!) To create a fingerprint logon, you must first use your Web
browser to display the logon page for a Web site."

I attempted contacting Microsoft, and their only reply is that the
Media Center edition is pre-installed by the manufacturer (Toshiba)
and may be modified by Toshiba in installation, that I must contact
Toshiba.

Since the laptop is beyond warranty, I doubt that Toshiba will provide
any assistance. (In fact, they would probably just pass the buck back
to Microsoft, leaving me caught in the middle).

Anyone can help me figure this out??

Does this happen on all web pages that you try to log on to or just certain ones. I have used the
reader for several years now without any issues. I am using the 2.0 software, but I have come
across a few web pages that are login pages that don't actually register as a login page with the
reader. I have 20 or so logins that work just fine but 1 page that won't register as a login page.
I would try with some other sites to see if its the reader or just a poorly coded web page.

It happens on ALL the logon pages that I've tried (including eBay,
which I presume would normally be expected to handle such a
technology) ... I'm still at a loss to know how to overcome this. Is
there likely something else in my system or software that's blocking
it?
