Everytime i turn the laptop on this message pops up twice

Could not load or run 'C:\Windows\System32\gefdat\services.exe'
specified in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer
or remove the reference to it in the registry.

I have used several registry cleaners but it still pops up and when i
try and find the folder to delete it its not there.
Any help will be muchly appreciated, thanks in advance =]

Looks like you've been fighting this for the past six months (message
in Vista Forums, Dec. 18 last year)!

Did it start with you catching a virus or worm??

Yea the pop up started showing around the same time i got the virus but
i fixed the virus problem but this still pops up. I decided to just put
up with it cos i couldnt fix it but now it is really getting on my
nerves lol
I forgot i was even on that site lol

If I were in your chair, I'd set a restore point

Then I'd run regedit

In regedit, I'd search (edit/find) for "gefdat" (no quotes)

Every time it gets found, I'd delete the entry it finds.

Tap F3 after each deletion to start the search from that point.

If you've played in the registry before, this will come easily. If
not, it might be kinda scary. Know that if you screw something up,
you can use System Restore to go back to normal.

YW... glad it worked! :-D

Nonny

Wouldn't using the Autoruns utilility have been a safer approach? I
appreciated you suggested creating a restore point first.

You don't KNOW how much I appreciate that you appreciated <tongue
frimly planted in cheek>!

Doing what I told her to do has worked quite nicely for me in similar
situations in the past. It also worked nicely for any situation where
I've wanted to make sure something was completely gone from my system.

There was no danger, except in your mind.
