This is the next segment of our blog series highlighting Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors who achieved the Gold milestone, the highest level attainable, and have recently graduated from university. Each blog in the series features a different student and highlights their accomplishments, their experience with the Student Ambassador community, and what they’re up to now.

Today we meet Christian Flor, who recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in software systems engineering and telecommunications engineering from ICESI University in Cali, Colombia.

When did you join the Student Ambassadors community?

I joined the Student Ambassadors community in July 2021, and I liked it from the first moment I joined, because of the warm welcome from my fellow students from different countries!

What was being a Student Ambassador like?

Being a Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador was an enriching and exciting experience for me. I had the opportunity to participate in events such as Microsoft Ignite Spotlight in Colombia, an event that aimed to help organizations face the various challenges of everyday life, in addition to preparing them to respond to the needs that mark accelerated digital transformation while continuing to add value through technology. I also participated in a Microsoft Reactor event series, where I was able to explore new technologies and discover innovative ways to address modern day problems.

Was there a specific experience you had while you were in the program that had a profound impact on you and why?

During my journey as a Student Ambassador, I participated in different information sessions to encourage other students from different universities in Colombia to join the program. I also held an event called Microsoft Week, which included Power Day. Power Day was an event where all the new features of the Power Platform ecosystem were presented by a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP), Mayra Badillo Villamizar from Colombia. This experience allowed me to improve my public speaking skills and share my knowledge with other students.

Tell us about a technology you had the chance to gain a skillset in as a Student Ambassador. How has this skill you acquired helped you in your post-university journey?

During my time as a Student Ambassador, I gained skills in a variety of technologies, including Microsoft Learn, Visual Studio Code and Azure. These skills have been a great help to me in my post-college journey, as they have allowed me to develop basic technology skills and be prepared for my future. In addition, I have also learned cross-disciplinary skills, such as personal branding and social media use, which have helped me stand out in the job market.

What is something you want all students, globally, to know about the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassador Program?

The MLSA program is a unique opportunity to develop their technical and leadership skills. Through this program, students have exclusive access to Microsoft resources, such as Microsoft Learn, Visual Studio Code and Azure. These resources enable Student Ambassadors to enhance their knowledge in technologies and develop practical skills. They also get to network with other Student Ambassadors and Microsoft professionals, providing a valuable network for their future career.

What advice would you give to new Student Ambassadors, who are just starting in the program?

My advice to new Student Ambassadors just starting out in the program is to make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. Be active in events and activities, organize events on your campus or in your community, and look for ways to share your knowledge with other students. Also, don't be afraid to explore new technologies and challenge your limits. The program offers a unique platform to grow personally and professionally, so make the most of this experience.

Share a favorite quote with us! It can be from a movie, a song, a book, or someone you know personally. Tell us why you chose this. What does it mean for you?

"The only way to do great work is to love what you do." - Steve Jobs. I chose this quote because it reflects the importance of finding passion in what we do. As a Student Ambassador, I had the opportunity to work with something I love: technology. This quote reminds me that when we love what we do, we are willing to put forth effort and achieve meaningful results in our lives and in our community.

Tell us something interesting about you, about your journey.

During my journey as a student and Student Ambassador, I have had the opportunity to participate in Microsoft-sponsored technology events. These experiences have allowed me to expand my knowledge, make valuable connections, and explore new technologies. In addition, I have had the privilege of collaborating with other outstanding students and Microsoft professionals in organizing events and projects. These experiences have helped me develop leadership, entrepreneurship, and teamwork skills. I have also had the opportunity to share my knowledge with other students, either through mentoring, STEM classes in elementary education, or volunteering in different activities.

Throughout my journey, I have discovered that technology is not only a powerful tool, but also a source of inspiration and a way to positively impact society. I have found that the MLSA program provides an environment where students can continue to learn, grow, and share their passion for technology with others.

Work hard, dream big, never give up.
