I'm running Vista Enterprise with Windows Media Player 11. Any time I play a
file, audio or video, Media player starts in the background and the only way
I now it's running is that I can hear the file playing. It doesn't show up on
the taskbar until I manually start media player, then it runs normal. When I
close media player the file will continue to run in the background until I go
into task manager and kill the process. Any ideas?

Could be because of other applications have acces to Media player.
I my case is was my Logitech Keyboard, which had a plugin/profile for
Mediaplayer which started Media player for me.
Second issue I had was: Media didnt stop when I closed Media player.
This was solved by stopping the the song/movie on the keyboard, before
closing Media Player.

Hope this helps
