Did you try the action that I suggested?
When you click on a link, two validation steps occur. If one of those
validation steps fail, you would see exactly this behavior. It would appear
to the outsider that the association was truly to the player, but in fact it
would not be fully the default - which would lead into precisely the
behavior you have described.
No worries about confusing me here - I helped design this interaction set
between the player and Internet Explorer. The only confusion I have is what
the exact registration set on your system is, which is what defines how the
interaction happens and what the results are. If it's truly the system
default - which is what my step resets it to - it should work fine.
If you could try my suggestion, that would be kind of you. There are many
ways it would appear to anyone that "Media Player is the default player",
but, to quote a great show, "there is more than meets the eye" - and the
behavior you are tends to contradict the notion the player is the default.
