media player version 11 for Vista. When media player opens up to plays the
first video clip (AVI 150 Mbytes)....NO problems. reading a second video clip
(AVI 130 Mbytes), McAfee antivirus pops up a windows with "buffer overrun"
and windows media freezes ??

McAfee needs to fix their anti-virus app. You problem is seen a lot on the
newsgroups. Nothing you can really do except get a better anti-virus.

Adding to what Mark said:

McAfee is known to cause problems. Sometimes they don’t show up immediately.
Replace McAfee with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows
Defender. Disabling McAfee is not enough. You need to completely uninstall
it.

What video codec are in use here for the files?

What are the results of WMP's Help:About:Technical Support Information menu
tool?
