can anyone help me? my media player doesn't work at all. everytime i click on
the icon it says "the file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6000.6344
where 11.0.6001.7000 was expected" then it tells me that my media player was
not installed correctly and has to be reinstalled, eventhough it came
preinstalled with my computer. it had been working fine just until about a
month ago. everytime i try to reinstall it from the link it gives me, it says
that it cannot repair a newer version of media player with an older one. CAN
ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE? I'M REALLY FRUSTRATED!

This link helped me before.

From Zachd (MSFT):

Type cmd in the Start Search box above the Start Orb. When cmd.exe appears at
the top of the Start Menu, right click on it and select "Run as Administrator".
In the "elevated" Command Window type:

unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion

and press Enter.

A reboot may be necessary.

Mark and Cal were both spot on, that will fix you up.

I take it you had removed SP1 from your system? That's the only reason you
should *have* 6000 but the system might still be registered as a 6001
system. This isn't an issue I'm aware of, but the "SP1 back to RTM" path is
the only case I can think of where you would be able to see anything
remotely like that. Unless you imported somebody else's HKLM registry files
for WMP - don't do that. =)
