Is there a way to map a folder on a remote machine so that it looks like a
desktop folder (i.e. so that it appear in the Explorer 'folders' pane on the
same level as 'My Documents' and 'My Computer'?)

Thanks

Map network drive can also be found in explorer's tools menu.

But this just locates the folder beneath My Computer. Do you know of any way
to create a folder on the _same level_ as My Computer?

What Rubberlugs describes maps it as a network drive, but if you
wanted it as a folder, try going to My Network Places and hit Add a
Network Place on the left. In the wizard that pops up, hit next,
select "Choose another network location", and type the path or browse
for the folder you want. I'm not sure if this is what you want, but I
think it is.
