Hi,
On a XP system, Word 2002 SP3 takes a minute or two to open a
document, as well
a minute or two to exit, despite the fact that no add-ons or macros
run at startup.
I tried the usual fixes (Renaming normal.dot and having Word recreate
it, renaming
the registry entries, etc..) but nothing worked.
However, the command 'winword /a <filename>' opened Word with the
specified
file in a couple of seconds. As I just use the default Word options,
using Word without
a template is fine.
Then, I tried to map the file type 'DOC' to a small script that I
wrote containing the
command 'winword /a', but when I double-clicked a 'doc' document,
Word opened
for a fraction of a second, and then closed.
I changed the script to 'winword /a %filename%', but when I executed
the command '<script>.cmd <file>.doc', Word opened with a blank
document
(Though when I executed 'winword.cmd /a <filename>' directly, Word
opened
quickly with the file).
So....how can I configure XP so that DOC files successfully open with
the command
'winword /a <filename>'?
Thanks,
DF
