Make vertical toolbar width smaller

I prefer my taskbar to be vertical on the left side of the screen. With XP I
can narrow it down to about 2/5 of an inch... just wide enough to show the
time and have all the systray icons stacked on top of each other in one
column.

With Vista the narrowest I can make it is about double that width. Anyone
know if there's any way of making it smaller?

Hi,

No way that I am familiar with. Does seem odd that you can't narrow it back
to a single width when vertical. But, I still haven't figured out what
prompted the decision to lock the Quicklaunch bar to the taskbar as well.

I had the same problem i.e. if I put the vista toolbar vertical on the
left side of the screen the narrowest was approx 1 cm.

The culprit turned out to be the arrangement of the icons in the
'notification' area. For some reason they were arranged in pairs and
causing the toolbar width to be increased.

The solution was simply to go into Toolbars / Properties then select
the notification tab and deselect all the system icons (also select Hide
inactive icons). This shrinks the toolbar width to 1/2 cm. You can then
add the system icons back in (I did it one at a time) and they will
stack up vertically and not widen the toolbar. :)

hope this works for you!
