I get this message at boot up and I can't go into Vista MCE : "windows media
center receiver service stopped working and was closed"

What is doing this? How can I fix this?

Help Please...

There is apparently a hotfix for this error, which you can receive if you
contact Microsoft.

Error message when you start a Windows Vista-based computer that has more
than one TV tuners: "Windows Media Center Receiver Service stopped working
and was closed":
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938928

The article references another article, with another hotfix, KB936229,
should the above hotfix fail to solve the problem.

Thanks that worked. After I requested for the hotfix, MS sent me the hotfix
download hours later. Applied the hotfix and the error went away.

Thank you for reporting this. I'm glad to hear that you took the time to
contact Microsoft and ask for the download, and that the fix worked.

I have the same error as "Ted F"
My Dell Dimension 9200 has the Hauppauge WIN TV-HVR-1600 Dual Tuner PCI
Card. I upgraded from Vista Home Basic to Home Premium on 12/30/2007.
Everything has worked great with the Media Center and TV watching and
recording with both tuners until today. When I clicked to open Windows Vista
today I consistently get the following error:

"Windows Media Center Receiver Service stopped working and was closed"
Per MS Tech Support Knowledge Base, I have tried both hot fixes (938928
(1st) and 936229 (2nd)) and neither fixed the above problem.

Any additional suggestions would be appreciated.
