This question is about losing the rights to about half of my music files today. When I try to play a file using Windows Media Player, a small window pops up. The blue bar at the top of the window says "Media usage rights Acquisition". The body of the window appears to be a website with Napster & Rhapsody names, a few pages, but having no real content. The music file will not play,
I did buy some new music today. I downloaded from Amazon to C:\ . . . My Document\My Music\AmazonMP3\filename on my desktop. I noticed that Windows Media Player would play only items in the AmazonMP3 folder and none of the other music in my WMP Libary and stored on an external fixed disc. I did my usual tactic when I encounter this problem: Media Player > Library > Add to Library... > Manually add F:\My Music. My machine worked for a couple of minutes. Then I tested a few files by trying to play them. My 1st impression was that I could play a lot more files, but only about half of the total that I own. I had lost the rights to all files downloaded through Napster. All of the files downloaded through Amazon would play. Several hundred pieces of music that I have been playing for several years will now not play. They will not play if I start play from F:\; they will not play if I start play from within WMP.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to recover my rights, or stop Napster from interfering with rights I really do own.
I have been downloading mp3 music for several years. In the beginning I purchased files through Napster & paid every time, every file. More recently I have been using Amazon. Again, I paid every time, every file. I use Windows XP on a Dell desktop, & store my music files on an external hard drive. I synch an mp3 player or a Windows Phone to my computer for mobile playing. I use Window Media Player to play on my desktop. I download files into a folder on C:\; copy from there to external fixed disc. I usually end this process with two instances of each of my just-purchased mp3 files on Windows Media Player. These disappear from WMP when I delete them from the folder on C:\ that first receives the download.
