loose hardware

ok ,so i am adding 1g of ram to my compaq persario sr1403wm desktop pc.i open
up the cover an there is a big piece of gray metal with what looks like teeth
protruding up ,with some glue on the back.so i find the spot with matching
glue an apply pressure to stick.close cover boot up an i hear the piece full
inside system box.pc still runs normal,should i restick this metal or leave
well enough alone.
 
If you don't know what the parts are, get the manual.

It sounds like you're describing a heatsink.

It is hard to tell since you failed to use any punctuation,
except a couple of commas.

Unless you know what you're doing, best learn.

Call HP tech support and have them tell you how it is supposed to be
attached.

Do not apply any type of standard "household" glue! If this is turely
a "heatsink" then the glue must be a special resistant glue. Most
household glue will not resist the extreme hot temps of the IC chip
that this heatsink was glued to.

I presume you meant to tell this info to the OP? The HP techs should
tell the OP what is required.

Why ask HERE? This has NOTHING to do at all with the OS and it's
interaction with hardware.

Take this to a HARDWARE group as it out of place here.
