I had a reboot loop with SP3 installation on a HP--AMD computer. The
following note from Microsoft support explains how we solved the problem:
Here is a summary of the key points of the service request for your records:
Action: Unable to boot to the desktop
Result: Reboot loop
Cause: After installation of SP3
Resolution: We follwed the followinf article
www.support.microsoft.com\KB\888372 . We tried Method 1
in the article. After this article we went to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Intelppm
-In that delete the Start
-Right click on Intelppm and select new and in new, DWORD
-Rename the new entry as
-Right click on the Start entry and select modify and change the value
to 4.
