Hi,

I'm trying to gain access to an old windows server 2000 (not Domain
Controller) we have standing around the office. It hasn't been used
for 2 years or so but is still running. I can get local adminstrator
access on it, but I can't logon to the profile that i need. The
profile belongs to a Domain User (who is a member of the local
administrators group).

The domain controller the domain user belongs to, was discontinued
last year. The new domain controller has a different name.

How can I gain access to this profile/domain user? I don't just need
access to the files, but rather the installed programs and settings.

Thanks in advance for any pointers you might have,

David

Here is a safe way to do this:
1. Create a new account.
2. Log on under this account.
4. Reboot the machine.
5. Log on as administrator.
6. Seize ownership of the problem profile folder.
7. Copy the problem profile folder to the new user's
profile folder. It's best done via the Control Panel /
System / Advanced function.
8. Log on as the new user.
