Everytime I re-boot I get a pop up window asking me to log in. I just hit
enter and the re-boot continues. This is annoying. I know others with XP
Professional who do not have this "problem". Is there a protocol I need to
delete? Perhaps NetWare?

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Try this:

Start, Run, type, control userpasswords2, and click OK. In the Users
tab, uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer."

It took me a long time to get back to half normal after following your
advice Terry R. It seemed to make sense so I did what you suggested but my
desktop was completetly lost and I feel lucky to be back now, even though it
is a little short of where I was before I unchecked the "Users must ..." box.

I don't know what you did wrong because control userpasswords2 is how
you automatically log into a user account. You probably didn't select
the right user account. Here is a link to help you:

Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

As an aside, usually the new request for logon happens after you install
something that requires .Net 1.1, such as printer software. The way to
get back to the automatic login (no request for password) is to go to
Windows Update and install the patch for .Net 1.1. Or set the machine to
automatically log in the way Terry R. suggested. Since you had problems
with that, look at Ramesh's link above first.

Malke,

That did it. Thanks. The difference being the need to select a specific
user name.

Glad that sorted it for you. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
