I have an LG Super Milti RW optical drive that is supposed to read and
write both CDs and DVD data. However when I installed the drive into my
XP box, I could only get it to read and write CDs and not DVDs. I
located the automatic firmware update software (no easy task) and
installed it. After the updates were complete, it still would not
recognize or burn DVDs. :( Has anyone else had this kind of trouble? If
so, what was your solution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some facts about the hardware and my systyem that might be of
help.

LG Drive Specifications from Device Manager:

HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H54N (assuming GSA-H54N is the model)

Windows system configuration:

Windows XP Home Edition SP2
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800
2.01 Ghz 1 Gig DDR Ram

I've tried everything to make this thing work.

Thx in advance

Tevi

While Windows XP is capable of reading and writing CDs, it does
not include any native ability to do the same for DVDs. You
need to install third party DVD reading and burning software.
Most DVD-RW drives include basic versions of commercial
programs. Was any software packaged with your drive? If not,
here are a couple of free programs that you might find helpful.

CDBurnerXPPro

VideoLAN - VLC media player

Good luck

Aight. I'll check into it. I have the VLC media player already but can't
burn stuff with it. I'll check out the XP pro burner software.

Thx again :)

Oh. one more thing.. I did already try NEO on the system and it still
didn't recognize DVD. I hope the XP pro one works.

Did your drive come with this CD?

If so, PowerDVD is the program you need to install in order to
play DVDs. Nero Express should be capable of writing DVDs.

Good luck

Unfortunately, the place that built my system seems to think that windows is supposed to recognize the DVD lol :) They gave me the drive but provided no
software whatsoever. Grrr :(

Thx
