Is there some setting that'll allow me to turn up the brightness on my
laptop's monitor? I don't like how dark it is with the privacy filter in
place

Not bad. You've still got a little over a week to come up with a
better entry into the "Dumbest Question of the Year" contest, but I
think you might have a winner with this one.

Yes try to go to your FN keys(blue keys) and find brightness

It is not a dumb question, It's not like what I'm asking about is common
sense/knowledge, how else am I supposed to know unless I ask someone?

Blue keys? What's that? I've never heard of them before.

This question has to do with your hardware, not the OS or any other
software. You should look in the documentation that came with your
machine (on my laptop there's a user's guide on the disk, with a
shortcut to it on the desktop). That will show you where the
brightness control is.

It is a TRULY dumb question for SEVERAL reasons.

ONE: this group is for discussing problems about the Windows XP
OPERATING SYSTEM, not computer hardware.

TWO: even if the question was appropriate for this grout, you didn't
mention the make and model of your computer. Dumb. REALLY dumb.

THREE: you obviously havent't looked at the manual for that computer.
Dumber yet

It's not a dumb question at all. Uncle Grumpy is just our resident
grouch here. He's almost always rude, never any help to anyone, and I
suggest killfiling him, as I've done.

However, it's not a Windows question. How to do this is a hardware
function, and depends on your particular laptop. Check your laptop's
documentation, or contact the manufacturer.

Yes it was. TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY DUMB.

Posted to the wrong newsgroup, didn't include info on his equipment,
and showed that he'd obviously not even looked at the manual for
whatever computer he owns.

Idiots NEED to be told that they're idiots. Some of them might change
their ways.

Those that don't are idiots - MORONS - that are beyond help.

BITE ME.

You're an idiot. I hope you change your ways.

Not likely.

I'm old. I've taken great pains to become who I am. I like who I am.

Judging from your posts that figures. Fortunately there are few egotists
like you.
You think you impress people but, nothing is further from the truth.
