keyboard skips double characters

I'm using XP MCE on a Toshiba notebook PC.
I keep having trouble in characters being skipped when I type rapidly.
This is most apparent when I type a double letter (letter might come out
leter), but it sometimes happens in other cases if I type real fast.

I've gone to the settings for the keyboard and tried different settings
unsuccessfully. At present the keyboard properties are set as follows
for "Speed":
Repeat delay: set to closest to Short
Repeat rate: set to closest to Fast.

Have I got the settings wrong? Is there somewhere else I should look?

Thanks.

Jeff

Hello,

Is it a wireless keyboard? If so, check the wireless reception and try a
wired keyboard.

No, it the keyboard on a Toshiba laptop. Maybe I just type too fast.
It happens mainly when I am in Word, rarely elsewhere.
