Please does anyone know the answer ?.
I am running MSE on XP. Have everything set up firewalled automatic updates everything set at fairly high security levels, and update and scan with MSE usually twice daily. When I am not using the computer I disconnect the network and re-connect when next needed as a security measure.
Sometimes when I return to the computer the network cannot be found and the only way to restore the network connection is to re-boot. I then find that it is almost impossible to re-boot as it powers down within 5 seconds of pressing power button. I've tried holding the power on button for several seconds but to no avail I just keep on pressing it sometimes for dozens of attempts and it just keeps automatically shutting off the power. It does catch eventually if I keep pressing it for dozens and dozens of attempts. The question is ?, is this a virus of some description, and if it is what and how is it riding in on, and why is MSE not picking it up. I have had similar situations where the IP address for my printer, ( Ricoh Aficio) has been changed, subsequently disabling the printer, and setting me off on a laborious systems check. ?. Anyone have any ideas.

Many thanks

Bob.

PS Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to one and all.
