I spent a short stint a year or so ago working in a Help Desk environemnt.
On that network they had some Netware server and there was a software
package that we used to remotely access the user PC...
I think we entered the user account name, the got a popup that asked if we
agreed to give them access to their system and likely asked what level of
access to give us.
The product might have been or had something to do with ZenWorks...
I suspect there was an agent installed on both machines...

Is there a Micrsoft equivilent?
It seems like Remote Assistance has too many hoops to go through...

Thanks

Kelvin

I use RA from a W2003 server ...and "offer remote assistance" - it works
just fine. No invitations/etc. There are a lot of third party products out
there - DameWare, GoToAssist, TeamViewer, etc etc etc.

RE: is there anything other then Remote Assistance for remote assistan

We use Ultr@vnc and have icons for each client pc in folders aranged by the
server they are on. It works a treat for us.

Double click the icon and you are sitting at their desk!

Hi Kelvin,

Ideal Remote could be a good equivalent to netware soft you worked on. It
allows you to connect computers by Netbios names or IP adresses, using
TightVNC free tool, and with some securized solutions. You can also
choose different ways the remote user has to accept or not your
connection. For more information on this product, you can go to
http://pointdev.com/en/ideal-remote/index.php where you can download a
trial version. You can also contact the Technical support at
support@pointdev.com, they will answer you quicly and precisely about
your wishes.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply...

When you say "I use RA from a W2003 server ...and "offer remote assistance""
are you saying RA has the option to offer Remote Assistance or are you
saying Remote Access is one option and Remote Assistance is another option?
It sounds like you are saying they are two different, not related options.

Thanks

Kelvin

For a 3rd party product my favorite is Radmin
http://www.radmin.com/products/radmin/index.php . It has good connection
speed/refresh rate and good management options. But it does have a cost
attached.

I meant RA to mean remote assistance. If I offer remote assistance from the
W2003 server on the domain (I do remote support, so I'm on the server using
remote desktop), it's quite easy.

It sounds like what you're going is what I want to do but I'm having trouble
picturing how you are doing it.

"If I offer remote assistance from the W2003 server"
Are you saying that if you're accessing a PC from your server you can
connect to a user's PC without them "Inviting" you?

I was hoping there is way to connect to their PC and at that point it might
prompt them to say OK for me to have access.
I was hoping they wouldn't have to invite part.

Do you have instructions or an artical that talks about how you use AR?

Thanks for your time,

Kelvin

I do RD to the server - then on the server, I use 'offer remote assistance'
to a domain member PC. I have remote assistance enabled on the remote PCs
and also have an exception set up in the Windows firewall for RA (via group
policy).

That's exactly how I do it.

Right.

If you have AD, this should be working right now. You can create a shortcut
on your server's desktop rather than always going to help & typing in "offer
remote assistance."
