Is there a "remote control" available for XP Pro?

I'm running XP Pro, fully patched, on a high end machine.

I would like to purchase a remote control which 1would give me the use of
various keys, such as the ENTER key. Also, various programs that I use for
media displays have the usual assortment of play, stop, forward, reverse,
and similar keys. It would be nice if I could also use them remotely.

I do see an MS IR remote, which comes with a USB receiver, but it seems to
say that it only works with the MEDIA EDITION of Windows XP. Is there a
similar device that works with XP Pro?

Sounds like a wireless keyboard.

a TV like remote would work if you have a TV card installed or build in like
media edition

Thanks to both of you for your replies re the wireless keyboard.

I had considered that , but it just seemed like a "too big" item to play
with.

And, I really don't want to install a TV card, but of course there are
external USB TV units. I really have no interest in adding TV to my machine
though.

Even with a TV "card". will the usual TV controls on the TV remote - such as
play, stop, ff, etc. work with other software which incorporates similar
controls within the software itself. I have no way to really determine that.

Use voice control by Dragon Naturally speaking.

A wireless mouse with a few extra side buttons that you can reassign to
keys could work. I reassign the buttons on my mouse depending on which
program is active - I found that for Microsoft mice, this seems to work
better if you use Intellipoint 4.12 instead of one of the newer versions.

Perhaps you could find something like the "wireless presenter" that
Logitech makes, or similar devices that come with some video projectors
that at least give you control over the mouse cursor - some of these go
through the projector IR remote and then via a USB cable from the
projector to the computer, but I have an old one from Epson that has a
separate IR receiver that plugs into the USB on the computer. This has
mouse control plus page up/down, but not much else.

then there is this............

If you're mainly interested in media playback, MediaPortal is a freeware
Media Center-like application that works with a number of different 3rd
party remote controls, including the MCE remote. It supports some file types
that MC and WMP do not, at least not without plugins, and in conjunction
with FFDSHOW allows for switching between multiple audio tracks using the
remote.

What I'm interested in mainly is using the "remote control" device in
conjunction with a digital slide show program that I use heavily.

This software has a "toolbar" at the top with a variety of "buttons",
including the usual PLAY, PAUSE, NEXT, PREVIOUS, etc.. I really don't know
if the program will respond to any of the standard remotes, as would Windows
media playbacks et al.

I think what I'll do is contact the software author, and see what he has to
say about this.
