Hi all. I originally posted my question here:

http://www.ecgnetwork.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=94175#post94175

Here is a summary (my vid and sound card are both using IRQ 16)

OK, I checked my BIOS settings. I have 4 "slots" where I can change my PCI IRQs. It looks like this:

1/5
2/6
3
4

All are set to AUTO. If I open my PC and see where my sound card is, do I count down from the AGP slot to figure out which one the sound card is in?

Also, the IRQs in DXDIAG --> MSInfo show IRQ settings as high as 21. In the BIOS, it shows staggered numbers only up to 15 (like 9,10,12,13,14,15). But 9,10,12,,14, and 15 are already used according to MS Info. I would like to set the appropriate PCI slot to IRQ 13, which is open according to MSInfo.

I need help successfully assigning the PCI slot with the sound card to an open IRQ (like 13). :)

Last I knew, you didn't really have to fiddle with IRQs with PCI (part of that whole PnP initiative). As far as I know, the AGP slot doesn't count in a listing of PCI slots (though I'm not certain on that ...). Is there a particular problem you're trying to route around, or is this just out of curiosity?

Put a list of all the cards you have in the slots. The video will use 16, but sound should use 17. PCI slots share irq. Depending on your board agp and slot 3 should share one.
try moving the sound card down a slot from where it is now. You will always have a device sharing an irq. In older motherboards this used to be a problem with some devices showing as busy.
Are you having a problem with something not working?

Added. IRQ 13 should be assigned to the last pci slot on board. First slot being the one at the bottom of the board on most models.

Both my sound card and video card are using IRQ16. The problem is that I am getting horrendous framerates in the game Battlefield 1942 when I am running around on the ground. I get like 3-10 FPS!!! The game is very video and sound intensive, and I do not suffer this FPS lag when out alone in the distance or in the air in a plane. Probably due to much less sound processing and video processing than being up close face to face with infantry and tanks.

I have an Athlon XP 2400+, Asus A7V8X MoBo, and an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, with a GB of PC2100, with SB Live! 5.1. So I should no way no how be dropping to 3-10 FPS in the action.

Others have mentioned checking if the IRQ of the vid and sound are the same, which they are. I will try moving around the sound card and see if that helps.
