Yep, wife bought me an 80GB and I have a nice cd collection with about
2000 songs on my pc's, but when I tried to sync the new iPod, it
started resetting and when I tried to re-attach it to the pc, it did
the same thing as you describe. I went through about a week of grief
with BestBuy and ended up replacing the iPod only to figure out that
the xml file in the iTunes directory was corrupted.
Depending on how you installed iTunes you probably have an iTunes
subdirectory under your My Music subdirectory, maybe not. At any rate
in the iTunes subdirectory, there are two files one has an .xml
extension and the other one has a .itl extension. Copy those files
somewhere for backup and then delete them. Then in iTunes import the
iTunes Music subdirectory that should also be under the iTunes
subdirectory, if that's where your music files are stored.
Hope this helps.
