It means that the IP address the machine is attempting to use is already in use by
the other machine. Make sure the router is configured for dhcp and the machines are
configured to obtain an IP automatically. Check the dhcp IP range that's set in the
routers web based configuration and set it for 2-3 IP addresses over the number of
PCs connected to it.
You could try resetting the IP/DNS from a cmd prompt.
Click Start > Run, type in: cmd and press Enter or click Ok.
At the prompt type each command and press Enter after each. ** Note the ^ = a
space, do not type the ^ **
ipconfig ^ /all **Take note of the settings - Name, IP, DNS ,etc**
ipconfig ^ /release
ipconfig ^ /renew
ipconfig ^ /flushdns
ipconfig ^ /registerdns
ipconfig ^ /all **Take note of the settings, all should be the same as before
except for the IP**
ping ^ IP address or the UNC for the second PC
ping ^ google.com
exit
If you run into timeouts when using ping:
Shut down both PCs, then power down the router and then if applicable the modem.
Wait approximately 30 secs and power the devices back up in the order they were shut
down and each PC should be assigned their own IP.
Try to connect to the net.
