hi to all,

i'm having trouble setting up my wireless network between my 2
computers the main one runs W2k and the smaller one runs XP pro. both
computers tell me that they are running and connected but i cannot find
them on 'computers near me' on either machine nor can i see folders of
the connected machines.

checking the Event Viewer on the W2k computer i see an error with the
message: Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for
the network card with the network address of 00E04CCC3533. The IP
address being used is 169.254.47.74. can you tell me if this is my
problem ?

thanks, bob

You will probably have to configure the firewalls on each machine to allow
the other.

here is some reading

The message tells you that your network adapter failed to obtain
an IP address from your DHCP server. This might mean that your
wireless connection is not working. You should use fixed IP addresses
while testing things.
