SAP ERP helps run your entire business, supporting automation and processes in finance, human resources, manufacturing, supply chain, procurement and more. Microsoft Azure is the #1 cloud platform that SAP customers prefer to run their production deployments. Thousands of organizations today trust the Azure M-Series virtual machines to run some of their largest mission-critical SAP workloads, including SAP HANA.

Azure M-series Mv3 family, the next generation memory optimized virtual machines, give customers faster insights, more uptime, a lower total cost of ownership and improved price-performance for running SAP HANA workloads with Azure IaaS deployments and SAP RISE on Azure. Our new Mv3 VMs, supporting up to 32 TB of memory, are powered by the 4th generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and Azure Boost, one of Azure’s latest infrastructure innovations. Below, you can read more about the latest release.

Certified Compute – Mv3 Medium Memory (MM) Virtual Machines

Today we are announcing the General Availability of the Mv3 Medium Memory (MM) virtual machines series.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Mv3 MM virtual machines can scale SAP workloads from 250GB to 4TB with a lower total cost of ownership, and improved price-performance.
  • Mv3 delivers quicker insights and faster performance over Mv2, enabling up to 30% faster SAP HANA data load times for SAP OLAP workloads and up to 15% higher performance per core for SAP OLTP workloads over the previous generation Mv2.
  • Powered by Azure Boost, Mv3 provides up to two times more throughput to Azure premium SSD storage and up to 25% improvement in network throughput over Mv2, with more deterministic performance.
  • Mv3 has been built from the ground up with a significant investment in stability and reliability. It offers improved resilience against common failures in memory, storage, and networking, resulting in minimized interruptions to your mission-critical workloads.

Certified Storage – Premium SSD v2

Mv3 MM VMs are certified with Premium SSD v2, as well as Premium SSD v1 and Ultra SSD. Premium SSD v2 will be available in the same regions as Mv3 MM with zonal deployment. This advanced block storage solution is designed for performance-critical workloads that consistently need sub-millisecond latency combined with high input/output operations per second (IOPS) and throughput. Premium SSD v2 provides the most flexible and scalable general-purpose block storage in the cloud, enabling customers to meet the ever-growing demands of production workloads like SAP, SQL Server, Oracle, MariaDB, Cassandra, MongoDB, big data, analytics, gaming, virtual machines (VMs) or stateful containers.

Mv3 empowers businesses to optimize their infrastructure expenses with a range of tailored compute and storage options. With Premium SSD v2, Azure delivers a compelling value proposition by providing faster performance, improving reliability, and reducing the total cost of ownership compared to previous generations. Leverage Mv3 and Premium SSD v2 to maximize your IT investment and achieve significant cost savings.

Regional Availability and Pricing

The Mv3 MM VMs are now available immediately in various regions including West Europe, North Europe, East US 2, East US and West US2. Mv3 MM comes with and without temp disks, giving you the option to pay for local storage, only if you need it. With Mv3 you can do more with less with the flexibility to choose the right infrastructure option for your business needs and get a lower price over performance compared to previous generations.
