Internet connection times out

Paul

Computer runs windows XP Home edition with SP3. AVG Free Anti virus, no 3rd
party firewall, just built in windows one.

My friend has a DSL connection. For some reason the connection is fine for
15 minutes but after that I loose the connection because everytime I change
websites or refresh the current page i get a message that the page has timed
out.

The connection still shows as being connected on the task bar but wont let
me connect to the internet. I have tried using Internet explorer and Firefox
but still have the same problem with both.

Have tried running Spybot and adaware, there were a few problems so cleared
them, restarted but still had the same problem. Sometimes after restarting
the computer it will work for 15 minutes ish and then stops, but other times
still won,t play the game. Have checked all network settings, uninstalled
and re-installed browsers and internet connection.

All ideas kindly accepted

How does the PC connect to DSL? Is there a router in the chain? If so,
check its settings, or swap another one in. Also check power saving
options on the network adapter - disable them. If you can swap in another
network adapter, try that - they are inexpensive and it is possible for them
to fail and exhibit odd behaviour as they do so.

Connects through a router. Plugged his laptop in and he had no problems with
it. Will check network adaptor and am going to take his PC to my house and
try it on my DSL connection. I think it is a problem with network adaptor
but am not 100% sure.
