Internet audio problem

Dell DM061
WinXP SP2
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

Audio from Internet sources (Youtube, Amazon, Live365, etc.) is
intermittently inaudible with Firefox as well as IE - turning audio
volume to max produces barely audible sound.

There are no problems with audio from local CD/DVD or files (mp3, mid,
wav) using Winamp, Windows Media Player, Quicktime.

This is a recent problem - all audio was working correctly prior to
the past couple of weeks.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dave

And this relates to Windows Media Center how?

Just thought a media (audio) expert might have an idea what the
problem could be...

There may be several reasons for it.

Internet traffic congestion is the most common cause.High CPU usage or
low speed connection also causes similar interruptions to audio.

This is not a general media newsgroup (lowercase "m"), this forum is for
Windows Media Center (uppercase "M"), which is a separate operating system
that MS sells - Windows XP Media Center or now included with Vista Home
Premium and Ultimate.

Might get more better answers on a general XP forum or possible IE, since it
sound related to that rather than a general hardware problem.
