international keyboard setting behaving erratically.

For years I have worked with the United States-International keyboard
setting. But recently it stopped working. Then it just changed so that
right alt and vowel would give me an accented vowel. Except that the
alt would not produce an accented u or o. Frustrating. I switched the
keyboard off and then back on again. But the problem persists.

The settings are language English (United States) and IME keyboard
United States-International.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ron

Try the on-screen keyboard, to see if your regular keyboard is what is at
fault.

No help, just commiseration. I opened the on-screen keyboard, and it
recognized the US-International keyboard setting (dead keys were shaded) but
still malfunctioned in the same way.

Well, the good news is no new keyboard is needed. You have some corrupt file
in the system. I would run a Repair setup to get any corrupts files all at
once.
