Hi,
I was wondering if Microsoft have released any drivers lately for the
above chipset. We've experienced a few problems with a few machine booting to
the Windows Xp logo then the monitor going black when you get to login (acer
and dell machines). After deleting the video cards and rebooting all is back
to normal but we are unable to trace why this is occuring. Safe mode ,System
restore had no effect on the issue we had to do an uninstall and reinstall of
the graphics drivers which seems to fix the issue.

Windows XP Pro SP2

You should try the manufacturers first since they may have modified device drivers.
Acer
http://global.acer.com/support/download.htm

Dell
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Then if it comes down to it Intel.

Microsoft doesn't release drivers for 3rd party hardware, that is up to the
hardware mfg's. Either get them from Acers or Intel's website.

They sure do!! Yet anyone would be a fool to use them instead of the
manufacturers.

No they don't. Any drivers listed on Windows Update have been provided by

You can think as you wish, it's your prerogative.

As MS states in every article that involves installing drivers, for example:
<quote>
To work around this issue, use another printer driver that has a similar print
engine. The PhotoSmart printers have similar print engines to other Hewlett-Packard
printers that are supported with drivers that are included in Windows XP. Using these
drivers can provide some functionality for the printer, but not all of the
functionality.
The third-party products that are discussed in this article are manufactured by
companies that are independent of Microsoft. Microsoft makes no warranty, implied or
otherwise, regarding the performance or reliability of these products.
</quote>

Just because they are included in Windows XP does not mean Microsoft
programmed the drivers. Part of Microsofts Plug and Play propaganda
back in the day did involve them integrating manufacturer drivers into
windows as added incentive to utilize windows, and to choose
manufacturers that were working with them. Unless I am completely
mistaken.

I wondered when the technicalities of the word "Release" would surface.

Technically "Release" and "Programmed" are not one in the same either. Since my
original response on the matter was to
<quote>
Microsoft doesn't release drivers for 3rd party hardware
</quote>

I'll concur that "Release" and distribute/offer aren't either.

All this because you didn't like the term "release" why didn't you just
mention that from the beginning, all these bits and bytes that could have
been put to better use.

It had nothing to do with a dislike of the word release. It had to do with the way
the response was phrased which wasn't read in the manner intended, not unlike your
latest response at all.

Could someone simply tell me if Microsoft have WHQL or added any new intel
drivers to the automatic updates in the last couple of months?
