The content saving and sharing app Instapaper got a big update for the iPhone and iPad today that includes new support for iOS 8, including saving content from any app that supports the iOS system share sheet.
In a blog post, Instapaper stated, "No more copying links & opening Instapaper, emailing yourself articles, or installing bookmarklets. Just tap the system share icon, choose Instapaper, and voila! Saved." It has also added a Today extension, with the blog saying, "The Today extension shows you all the stuff you've saved that day and lets you open articles with one tap."
The new version also adds text-to-speech support, and users with an Instapaper Premium subscription can "create playlists of articles to be read aloud back to you." The apps also has user profiles for the first time and the Feature, Daily, and Friends streams have now been merged to one Browse feed.
While Instapaper is free to download and use, extra features can be unlocked in Instapaper Premium for a fee of $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year. The blog states:
All existing subscribers will be automatically upgraded to Instapaper Premium, and will be grandfathered at their current subscription price. Those of you that aren't current subscribers but have supported Instapaper by purchasing either the iOS or Android apps will get a free month of Instapaper Premium as a token of our gratitude.
