installing two os in sys xp2 AND LINUX(ubountu)

hi friends,

I want two os in my pc linux and xp both..........steps taken by me:

1> xp already installed in sys. in {c:\}
2> reinserted xp2 cd......... booted the sys....... and deleted the
partition of {d:\} such that no d:\ exist.
3>inserted linux cd..booted the sys... made the grub and installed the
linux.
4>after completion of installation......... when i boot the sys.
5>xp starts without showing the option of second os linux.
6>then i boot from xp2 cd and deleted the partition of c:\ ie no
xp there in pc.
7>what i saw after reboot the linux which i was installed in pc
starts booting and showing the option of xp too.
8>after this i again installed xp2.................... but the result
was the same as from point 1 above.
9>this means my system have both os by during boot process only xp
running.

what will the procedure so that two option will come during boot up of
sys.can any option be added in boot.ini file of xp.

Linux does not create a dual boot automatically....it does not write files
to the XP partition.
I have XP installed on one HD and Ubuntu on another.I use the BIOS option to
set 1st boot by means of an F12 option when booting because I did not want a
huge problem when I decide to just go back to XP.
If you do a google search for bootloader or dual boot you will find small
programs that you install that then will give you the option.
Bootitng is one such program.

thanks pitter............. but i am interested to know how can we
keep both os .... since i have seen two os xp as well as linux in some
others pc.

Hi,

I do not know if I am too late. But what I do, and see people doing is to
install xp first then with the ubuntu LiveCD the installer will create the
partition and will impose GRUB as your boot loader. Which version of ubuntu
are you installing it could be that you have a non so new version where that
option did not existed.

Now, when I reinstall XP or have problems I follow:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/R...llingWindows?action=show&redirect=RecoverGrub

So that GRUB takes over again the loading sequencing....
