I have an old Nvidia card that I am upgrading on my Dell Dimension 8100. It works but I am trying to get dual monitor capability. I am dual booting Mint Maya 13 and Windows XP SP3. Only using XP when I need to scan something, so Mint boots up first. I have ordered a PNY GeForce gt 630 2gig graphics card (VCGGT6302XPB), and a refurbished 330 watt PSU from Dell to handle that card. Dell said 330 watts is maximum for my machine. I am not a gamer so don't need a fancy card, or a lot of power.
I wanted to check with you guys if this card will work and if so is there anything special I have to do when installing it. I am unsure about having to uninstall the old drivers first. ( I have the original drivers and have the Nvidia package from X-Org installed on Mint) If I do have to uninstall will my machine boot up and be able to see a GUI on screen? I don't want Xp to take over and find drivers online since it is no longer supported.
I am hoping all I have to do is install the PSU, and then plug in the card, then boot up into Mint. I will then use the cd to install drivers, then update them online through Mint. Is this how it should be done?
