I tried to clone a Windows XP install from a DELL laptop which is nearly dead from old age into a Virtual Machine on my new Windows 8 computer. Windows 8 will not run some software I need and have used for years on the old laptop. The install seemed
to work until I sign in on the virtual machine. Then a window pops up saying I have to Activate the Windows install. I tried using the activation code I got from Dell but Windows does not recognize it so I went to the phone and Windows system does not recognize
the code my install presents. Is there any way I can get this install activated? I am not going to update my old software and I want to use this virtual machine to run older software that is not compatible with Windows 8.

It appears Microsoft is not selling XP any longer. I do have a Windows XP disk that is not OEM from way back before SP2 came out but I want to keep all my software from the recent install without having to re-install some 20 or 30 programs. Can anybody
help?
