I have a new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows Vista and Windows Movie
Maker. When I try to import video from my Panasonic DV Palmcorder Model
PV-DC252D to the Sony Vaio via a 4 pin to 4 pin Firewire, I get the
following response from Windows Movie maker

::IMPORT VIDEO COULD NOT FIND A COMPATIBLE DEVICE. VERIFY THAT THE
DIGITAL VIDEO DEVICE IS PROPERLY CONNECTED AND TURNED ON::

::I went through all the trouble shooting with no luck. Any one have
any ideas?::

Windows, because it is dumb often times has trouble seeing both USB
and Firewire devices. I would pull the plug (the Firewire cable) from
the Palmcorder then wait a few seconds and then plug it in again. You
should hear an audio cue from Windows once it "sees" any firewire
device.

Since you said it is new have you installed any required drivers? Has
Vista EVER detected this new hardware?
