I am amazed he gave up so soon, obviously a quack. Why not try the MS
virtual server under Vista and see how XP and Ubuntu run as virtual
machines, then try the same under Ubuntu using VMWare and VirtualBox
with XP and Vista as virtual machines.

That way you can get a good idea of whether Vista or Ubuntu is the
better "Host" and at the same time have all 3 available at the click of
a mouse button.
