IE 7 crashes when trying to play video

I have a dell notebook with Vista Home Basic SP1. AVG Anti virus.
Starting some point in time (maybe after installing SP1 – but I can not
guarantee) I can not play video at certain sites. When trying to do that IE
crushes.
The wired thing is that it doesn’t happen in all sites. For example:
Problems at sites: http://www.ynetnews.com, www.TheMarker.com
Working fine: yahoo, youtube
I have tried to remove all IE add-ons and get them back, updated java, Flash
Player and directx but no luck until now.

Not sure if it relates but I got a suggestion in another forum to
specifically set IE as the default web browser instead of: “Use my current
web browser†(Start-> Default Programs-> Set Program Access and computer
defaults -> Custom). But the problem here is that this configuration it is
not kept. Meaning: After setting this (and actually any other setting there)
and entering this configuration again – you can see this configuration
remained as it was in the beginning.

IE 7 has a Reset button at:
IE, Tools menu, Options, Advanced tab

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your post but unfortunately it didnt help.
Another idea?
Can i somehow uninstall IE and than reinstall it?

Many of the key parts of Windows like Windows Explorer (file browser),
Microsoft's web browser, their Media Player, their Movie Maker all
have a long history of crashing over and over for no real reason not
just in Vista, but in XP and prior versions of Windows.

The good news is there are many excellent free alternatives to replace
the badly broken elements of Windows that Microsoft never seems to get
around to fixing.

For example GOM Player is a excellent video player. XnView is a nice
player too and doubles as a good shell replacing Windows Explorer.
Browsers like Opera and other open source versions run rings around
IE7.
 
The way to reinstall IE 7 in Vista is SFC /SCANNOW
Some Windows Vista functions may not work, or Windows Vista may stop
responding: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
If no help, I would try to identify the codec used on those sites.

I had the same problem with my HP laptop. It went away after I cleared out
my temporary internet files.

Hi Mark,
so it is actually not possible to remove IE :-(
Anyway - i will try your other suggestion and will apply the site to try to
find what codec they are using (unless you know another way to do that). I
know how to do that for local files but not for streaming videos.
