Sure, that option reads in German "Durchsichtiger Hintergrund für Symbol-
unterschriften auf dem Desktop" which means "Transparent background for
Desktop icon text" (translated). That option is available on all machines,
no matter if WinXP Home or WinXP Pro. It's the third option from the top,
however, this may vary depending on the particular language resource.

Since I never came across that issue, I suspect that you failed to install
the appropriate video driver and therefore, that option might be missing.
Otherwise, you might be searching the wrong tab for that option. Even if
German may be a foreign language for you, this uploaded screenshot should

Thanx everyone for helping me with this silly little annoyance. I had tried
that selection before without success but it was those extra little steps
that I didn't do Ken. It was like this before, strange that it reverted to
normal for some reason.

Don't you need something like Active Desktop to see that option? It
isn't available in my Properties either.

Well, I'm aware of some reasons why that option may not work (see Ken
Blake's reply), mostly caused by the background image format. However,
I never came across the issue that this option is *missing*. Therefore,
I suspect an odd thing like having no appropriate video driver installed
or similar since I cannot reproduce this behavior. Anyway, this is just
a long shot in the dark and there might be another cause as well.
