I want to transfer the programs I saved to a travel drive to windows 8.1

I had the new Windows 8.1 installed on my computer that had XP. I had saved my programs to a lot of travel drives sticks. Now I want to load them into the new windows but the program says there is not the correct path on the new windows? What am I doing wrong?
