Windows 2000 I need to undo what I did in Users and Passwords

Please --- I hope you can help this grandmother of 10 to undo what I did.

I bought my computer from my work back in 2003. It came with Windows 2000
Professional. Previous to my getting into Users and Passwords today -- on
the Control Panel I used to be able to turn my computer on, and everything
would come up on the screen without putting a password in. Well due to my
daughter and her small children (my grandchildren), planning to come and live
with me. I thought that I would fix my computer so that it required a
password to get into it. This is the first time I ever attemped to do this.
If I can get things back to the way they used to be, maybe I will just put a
lock on the door of the room I keep the computer in instead. I am so sorry I
got into what I did. I just want to undo what I did.

Well here is what I did ---- I went to the computers Control Panel & I got
into
Users and Passwords and clicked on
User Name- Administrator
Group Name- Administrators
and clicked Set Password.
I made-up a password.
Then instead of selecting Shut Down my computer
I selected Log off Administrator.

Then when I got back on my computer it brought up a two boxes, one already
had the word User in it & the second box was for my password. I put that in
but could not get into my computer. Then I changed the Word in the first box
to read Administrator and then put my password in the second box and I got
into my computer, but then found that My Desktop was **very different**. I
also found that all of the documents I had previously over the years saved in
My Documents folder were gone, there were a lot of them. Then after trying
several different things I finnaly found that if I Right Clicked on the Start
Button, then
selected Explore All Users ... (I had never gotten into that before). Well
in getting into that I discovered that there was a *Default User* and a *User
folder*. The User folder is the one that has all of my documents in it. If
I could somehow fix it so that when I log into my computer I can go right
into the User Folder and NOT the Default User Folder that is what I want.
I hope this can be done .... I think it can because
I found that if I go to the Control Panel and select the Systems Icon
instead of the Users and Passwords icon and then select the User Profiles tab
it shows that I have two User Profiles stored on my computer.

They both have the same number but after the \ one says Administrator and
the other one says User. I am sure that the one that has the word User after
the \ is the Profile I want.

How can I fix it so that I can get back into the profile I want. I am sure
the profile, with the word User after the \ ---- is the one I had previously
before --- I messed everything up today. I am sure it was the one that was
in use -- back when my computer just turned on by its self -- without a
password. I am sure of this ---Because the one that says Administrator after
the \ is much smaller it has a lot less KB's.

I hope you can help this Grandmother who will never get into the control
panel again and mess with things that I should not be messing with.

You appear to have changed the password that goes with the account
called "User", without making a note of what you changed it to. You
now need to change it to something that you can remember AND
MAKE A NOTE OF IT!

1. Log on as administrator.
2. Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
3. Type this command:
net user user grandmother{Enter}
[yes, the word "user" must be there twice!]
4. Log off, then log on as User / grandmother

questions

1st Question
You said that I must of changed the password to the account called user with
out making note of what I changed it to. I wasn't aware that I did that.
You see before I got into the Users and Passwords section of the control
panel I was able to just turn my computer on and it would automaticly come up
with my desk top and all of my saved documents, like it does now --- only now
I have log in with the word grandmother. Will I ever be able to just turn my
computer on without using a password ?

2nd Question
Is there a way to change my password from grandmother to something else ?

*** Launch the Control Panel and click "Users and Passwords". Now click
*** your preferred user account, then untick the box that requires users
*** to enter a password. Click OK and enter your current password
*** when prompted.

But your instructions were a bit unclear
In reference to the answer you gave to my two questions.

1st Question
Which one is my preferred user account ?
I have (4) choices
User Name Group
Administrator Administrators
ASPNET Users
Guest Guests
User Administratiors
I suspect the one I should use may be the last one
but I am not sure, and I don't want to make anymore mistakes.

2nd Question
You said ... Press Ctrl+Alt+Del, then click "Change Password".
Where do I need to be when I do this
Logged off my computer or what

I think my instructions were very clear. You asked how to
arrange it so that you Windows goes straight to the desktop
after you turn on your PC. Well, the account that gets you
the fully populated desktop must be your preferred account.
The other accounts give you a depopulated desktop (which
was your initial complaint), so they cannot be your preferred
account. Try them one after the other until you know which
one it is!

About changing your password: I said "Press Ctr+Alt+Del".
Anywhere, anytime, no restrictions! Why don't you try it for yourself!
