I know this is XP group but I need Vista Help bad for a friend.

Hello guys,
I use XP and come here for help with success. I was thinking some you knew
a lot about Vista also. Here is the problem my friend is having.

We both use an FTP program to transfer and recieive each others music we
have recorded etc. It has worked flawlessly untill he installed LimeWire
(file sharing network) on his Vista computer for his son. It seems like that
is when the FTP program quit working. Maybe Lime Wire set some net setings
that prevent it from working right etc. Not sure but that is my thinking.

Problem: When we un-installed Lime Wire it didn't help. I think it left a
process in memory or is loading code at bootup left over from LimeWire. Also
when we un-installed the FTP program it comes back up with the same settings
that it had before we un-stalled so it is "not" being un-stalled right. We
even deleted the FTP and Lime wire Folders under Program Files! I heard this
is a Vista thing. When I un-install the FTP program under XP it is gone and
I have to reset it up. Under his Vista it comes back up with the same
settings as before we un-installed it. This not right.

The FTP program says the recieve file error is probably caused by a
process/service running in memory that is causing it to not recieve programs
and music files from my Web Server. I NEED to remove this process. We
depend heavily on the FTP program to store and transfer programs on my Web
Server...

I heard there is a setting in Vista to turn off that will allow you to
"really" un-install programs like I do in XP and turn off other over
protected Vista setups. Also where in Vista can I go to see what process are
running so I can disable and stop them like I can in XP under Services.

I also would like to know if there is a MSCONFIG type of program under Vista
so I can see what drivers etc. are being loaded at boot up but we can't find
it.

My friend lives in Texas and we are having to try and fix all of this over
the phone so I can't really see what options Vista has. Very tiring and hard.

If nobody knows these questions please give me the main Vista news group
address. I can't find one. I know this much. If I had Vista I would turn
off a LOT of crap it has overdone and not really needed and makes it super
hard to maintain and work with your OS/Computer/Programs/ Drivers etc..

is the Vista expert over there.

You could try to do a System Restore back to a time when everything worked.
You will get help in the Vista newsgroup but asking for Frank to help will
just produce a very long thread of ridicule and abuse.

Ctl+ Alt+Del should invoke task manager

Click on start > Run > type in msconfig will start the system
configuration.

Hi RA,
We did try System restore on his Vista computer from several time and day
choices it had as retore points. None of them worked. They all said Vista
has failed to restore your computer and is reverting back to it's previous
settings.
I would think a new OS like Vista would have a better System Restore then
even XP.
Wild.....

Why would I get a lot of hassle by asking for Frank on the Vista board?
I can just make the post and not ask for anyone and maybe Frank would chime
in?

Windows key + R gives you the Run dialog. Then type in msconfig.exe

Alias likes to pull pranks sometimes. Visit the Vista newsgroup and witness
the mahem.
Make the post for sure and if at some point you get Frank, the post will
probably already be in the toilet. There are many helpful folks there along
with a lot of posters who live in their mothers' cellar and have nothing to
do but fling abuse at each other.
