I don't know what I'm doing (IDKWID)

I have a microsoft office question, my version of microsoft is Xp, on 6/16/14 I attempted to add a new user to my computer so my wife and I can use the same computer, but we have different log ons, different Itunes accounts etc. well, somewhere along the way I cannot seem to find out old computer setting, the computer opens up to a new desktop that I don't remember creating, maybe they are a default setting or something. anyway I seem to only have the options upon logging in to the computer, to access my new account that has minimal icons on the desktop (none of my previous icons/files). or i am allowed to change to "guest user" which doesn't have any of our old files, programs, photos etc....I know the old account is there somewhere, I have tried various recovery moves, but no luck, help....
