I cannot uninstall Trend Micro's PC-Cillin internet security

I have a new dell inspron laptop, Windows VISTA, preloaded with TM's
PC-cillin security 14 on a 30 day trial. It's expired, I'm trying to remove
it. None of the usual methods work, start menu, control panel, NOR the
uninstall tool in the TM program folder as recommended from the trend micro
site for this specific problem. The uninstall window using the PCCtool.exe
file in the TM program folder, is just running endlesly ( 45 minutes now )
without finishing.

Dell's final solution was reformat the hard drive and restore the OS. Other
than the annoyance of saving all the data that will be lost, I am very
reluctant to reformat the hard drive on a less than month old laptop because
TM has software issues that prevent uninstall from working.
Any suggestions on any tools that might remove this program?

One thing I would try is to go to it's directory in "program files"
and delete that directory. You may also need to delete a line or two
in the registry.

Just as a note, you should create a registry backup before doing
anything to the registry.

Could you give me a hint of how to identify the directory? I'm in the program
files now.. lots of names, nothing with a "type" of directory, nor an
extension of .dir?

Also, what line or two in the registry? Yes, I would create a backup first.
THanks.

You may not be able to delete any folder in the Program Files folder without
changing the Security setting. Changing the Security setting may require
loggin as the REAL ADMINISTRATOR.

Also try using Windows Installer Cleanup (msicuu.exe)
