When i open HTML Help Files (.chm) the text is all un readable, with
lots of Question Marks etc like this :

o??>U?¡r???Oa?sE?j?oAav?NnL?ae?i^nli^kTi^jL?¦ld¦?a??jL?Bn¦?l?-¬?
j?nloGN?lD,,B^LlD?j?oLh+E?^nnkiBB?n??ko?k?Lo??knoUlH??o-?oQi
BB?n??kok?<NB?n?dyl?k¦¦?n?oB

If i right click and View Source in Notepad the text is normal and
correct.

I think it is something to do with the Charset, but iam not sure how
or why ?

What application do you use to open your .chm files with?
It's supposed to be hh.exe.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

When i double click the help file, hh.exe is listed in the Task
Manager.

Microsoft® HTML Help Executable.
Version: 5.2.3790.2453.

I would try the direct approach to ensure that both hh.exe and
the .chm help file are the ones you think they are:
- Click Start / Run
- Type this into the Run box:
c:\windows\hh.exe c:\windows\help\addremov.chm

If this still produces garbage then you could try some or all
of these options:
- Use System Restore to return Windows to a previous condition.
- Using Explorer, right click the file c:\windows\inf\pchealth.inf,
then select "Install".

None of the above worked :-(

One thing i have found though, in Iexplorer, when i try to change the
Page Encoding to Western European(Windows) or *anything* else it just
stays on Unicode (UTF-8) .

So why wont it change to any other encoding ?
