HTML File Icons

I am on WinXP Pro SP2 with IE6. Recently I created a web browser using
VB6 & set this browser as the default browser. When I do so, even the
icons associated with HTM & HTML changes accordingly but if I set IE6
as the default browser in my PC, the HTML & HTML file icons change
back to the usual IE icons. I have been changing the default browser
from IE to my browser & vice-versa since 3 weeks or so.

Today after using my PC for about 6-7 hours, I shut it down & started
it again after 2 hours. Strangely I find that the HTM & HTML file
icons have changed to the generic icon (the icon that is set when a
file isn't associated with any app in the PC) irrespective of whether
the default browser is IE6 or my browser though the HTM & HTML files
open in the browser which is set as the default.

What could have caused this? How do I resolve this issue? I am quite
sure that nothing is wrong with the VB code since, as already said
earlier, I have been changing the default browser since last 3 weeks
or so (& haven't made any changes in the VB browser app since then).

Note that if I set FireFox as the default browser in my PC, then the
icons of HTM & HTML files change to FireFox icons.

Sorry...forgot to add that not all HTM & HTML icons change to the
generic icon; a few of them change to the icon of the default browser
but most of them remain the generic icon.
