I have a Dell D630 running Windows 7 Professional. It has been running pretty much problem-free for 2 years. My old 320GB hard drive was getting flaky, so about 9 months ago I cloned the system onto a new 500GB drive and everything was still working fine.
For printers, I've only had a Brother HL-2170W which is accessed through my home router/WiFi access point and it works fine.
Recently, I tried to install a local USB printer that is an HP PSC 2510 Photosmart. When the system tries to get the drivers from Windows Update, the 7th out of 7 drivers fails to load with a message:
"hppsc 2500 series driver failure to load"
"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"
This same printer installed fine on a desktop Dell GX-755 running Windows 7 Ultimate.
I also got an HP PSC 750 all-in-one printer and got the same error on the last of the drivers, so I suspect it's more than just an issue with the PSC 2510 printer in particular.
Can anyone point me to a possible solution for this install issue?
